Turn back time

What's the point in gaining an hour if you spend half of it adjusting all your clocks?

This is the digital age! Don't all clocks update automatically these days?

[identity profile] rich-jacko.livejournal.com 2011-10-30 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The computer and the cable box did. Not so much the video, the cooker, the microwave, the wall clocks, the alarm clock, my watch...

I'm not sure I have a timepiece (apart from the one in my truck) that doesn't update automatically. Granted, the only ones I have anymore are my phone and my laptop, but still....

Well, what else would Dobby sing on karaoke night?

'I Want to Break Free' by Queen?

I can picture that.

Thanks for the reminder that I missed out updating the oven yesterday...

Get digital clocks?

I only had to change two or three.

[identity profile] tiggothy.livejournal.com 2011-10-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
have fewer clocks?

the clock on our heating system automatically changed itself :-) We generally take about a week over the change...

The only thing I've had to adjust is my watch... Although Tigg has reminded me that I need to set the clock on the boiler too.

To balance out the 90 minutes you'd have lost earlier in the year?

I wish we could just stay on GMT!

Also, what's all this bollocks about sticking to 'continental time' when we're sat on the Grenwich meridian ffs?! Oh, it'll cause less accidents in the evenings - um did you think about dark mornings with dozy people behind wheels. And how much do you really want to piss off the whole of Scotland and much of northern England? Tossers.

I agree with you. If we have to choose a time and stick to it it should be GMT. I haven't understood any of the arguments to stay in the wrong time zone for our longditude.

[identity profile] rich-jacko.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I am, despite this post, quite happy with the current set-up. GMT is essential in the winter to avoid late mornings. It makes no difference to me whether it gets dark in the evening 30 minutes before I leave work or 90 minutes before I leave work. But long, light, summer evenings on BST are very nice.

There would still be long, light summer evenings even with GMT through the summer.

But not *as* long, and I'm really not likely to see any benefit from the sun rising at 4am if we stuck with GMT all year round.

I might, though :)
