I caught one of the mega-bright, technicolor trams home from work today. Someone at Stagecoach seems to have hired the Balamory gang to come up with the new colour scheme.

More worryingly, the Metro racks have been removed. I hope they're planning to put them back up again. Otherwise, where am I going to get my daily Count Dooku SuDoku fix from if they go?

I have to say, I'm less than convinced by the revamp. What do other people think?

The bright blue and orange is Stagecoach standard issue now. Expect on Terrier buses (now they are owned by them) in some form soon enough...

Not been on the new-look tram yet, but I suspect I should avoid when hungover going on the pics...

It's awful! caerban and I got one yesterday and we both hated it! They've made the wheelchair bit smaller by putting in a big cushion like on the buses, but that just seems to mean people are even less likely to move out if they're standing there so you can put a buggy in as they now have a nice comfy cushion to lean on! They've also changed the button system so you now have a "stop" button and another button to press to open the doors - what is the point in that exactly? The most annoying change, however is the new warning tone before the door opens, pitched just perfectly to hurt :-(

I think the new scheme is fab and very european (in a good way) - the fact that Stagecoach have finally realised that partially-sighted people need more visual clues than a bit of bumpy pavement at a tram stop to find the doors is a very good thing as is re-siting the wheelchair access opposite the doors.

I caught another one tonight, and it seems I was wrong about the lack of Metro holders. They are still there, but there's only one at each set of doors (thus halving my already slim chances of getting a copy) and are perfectly positioned at shin height, ensuring that everyone who isn't three years old or in a wheelchair has to stoop to reach them. I can see that holding things up as everyone tries to get on...

I'd forgotten about the new warning tone. You're right, it is horribly painful. There must be some new disability legislation that requires it to be loud enough for deaf people to hear and to permanently damage the hearing of anyone else.
