They are still there, but there's only one at each set of doors (thus halving my already slim chances of getting a copy) and are perfectly positioned at shin height, ensuring that everyone who isn't three years old or in a wheelchair has to stoop to reach them. I'd forgotten about the new warning tone. You're right, it is horribly painful. There must be some new disability legislation that requires it to be loud enough for deaf people to hear and to permanently damage the hearing of anyone else.
