Oct. 9th, 2007 08:00 pmI saw Ratatouille on preview last night. I wasn't expecting all that much as I wasn't terribly interested in the idea of a rat becoming a chef, and my Pixar expectations fell a little last year after Cars.
I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a great film! It completely sucked me in. Brad Bird should direct every Pixar film!
Those folks at Pixar are very, very clever. The techie CG stuff just gets more and more realistic (Torrents of water! Wet fur!), and all the twisty turny chase sequences are brilliantly done, but I'm not just talking about that. I mean the story, the gags, the way those guys can take anything and make it anthropomorphic and cute, from a desk lamp to a scrawny rat. Genius.
As for the short beforehand ("Lifted"), I won't spoil it for you. We ended up seeing most of it twice due to a cock-up in the projection. But even on the second viewing, I think it's fair to say that I haven't laughed so hard in a cinema in absolutely ages! :oD
