Warm Days

I'm very glad that the dire weather predictions this weekend turned out to be so completely wrong.

I've spent much of the weekend outside, briefly attacking some of the more chaotic bits of the 'garden', but mostly sitting reading Jim Butcher's Cold Days.

I can't remember the last time I just sat down for a good solid chunk of a day with a book. It felt good. I must do it more often. :o)

Doctor Who evening: Round 6: The Seventh Doctor
Saturday 14th September, my place from 4:00pm

A quartet of stories featuring one of my favourite Doctor/companion pairings this time - the Seventh Doctor and Ace:

4:00pm - Dragonfire
At the Iceworld Space Trading Colony on Svartos, the Doctor and Mel unexpectedly encounter old 'friend' Sabalom Glitz searching for the fabled 'Dragonfire' treasure concealed somewhere in the depths of the planet. Joined by Ace, a teenage waitress with a love for explosives, the group venture off to uncover lost riches, not knowing that Kane, Iceworld's ruthlessly intimidating overlord, will gladly murder them all to gain possession of the Dragonfire himself. Before long the Doctor finds himself playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with Kane's mercenaries, descending through the ice caverns ever closer to the deadly gaze of the monstrous dragon that lurks below...

5:30pm - Remembrance of the Daleks
London, 1963: The First Doctor is forced to leave Earth.
London, 1963: The Seventh Doctor returns, with Ace in tow and with unfinished business. Not for the first time, unusual events are unfolding at Coal Hill School and at Totters Lane junk yard. The Doctor discovers that the Daleks are on the trail of hidden Time Lord technology, technology that he himself left behind on Earth all those years ago. Can the Doctor - with the help of the local military - stop the Daleks stealing the Gallifreyan secrets? Or are things much more complicated...?

7:15pm - Break for takeaway

8:00pm - Silver Nemesis
Earth, 1988: While the Doctor and Ace flee from emotionless men wielding futuristic pistols, neo-Nazi Herr de Flores is intent on heralding the Fourth Reich. Meanwhile, the villainous Lady Peinforte uses black magic to propel herself forward from 1638 for a final confrontation with her sworn enemy - the Doctor. And, at the same time, a spacecraft full of Cybermen sets down on Earth. As the Doctor desperately evades multiple enemies, a meteor containing a Gallifreyan super-weapon* is hurtling ever nearer the planet. Whoever controls the Statue will hold the power of life or death over the entire universe...

* Yes, another one.

9:30pm - The Curse of Fenric: Special Edition
When the Doctor and Ace arrive at a secret military base during World War II, they discover that a centuries-old Viking curse is bringing terror to its inhabitants. As hideous vampires rise from the sea, and Russian commandos begin to close in, they are confronted not only with a mystery from the distant past, but also a terrifying vision of mankind's future. We learn more about Ace's past, and the Doctor's too. Could he be more than just a Time Lord...?

It is, unfortunately, a match day but it's the only Saturday I can do one of these this month. Kick-off is at 3pm so you should avoid all the traffic if you're driving, but be aware that parking spaces may be limited.
