My, those mountains look quest-worthy!
Jun. 7th, 2014 11:16 pmIf you've ever roleplayed, and you haven't seen any of the Gamers films, there is a large comedy joy shaped hole in your life. Fortunately, I can fix that. :o)
The Gamers Trilogy
Next Saturday (14th June), my place from 5pm
For the uninitiated, these are amateur films, but very well-written and a lot of fun. The cast play a group of roleplaying nerds, as well as their PC alter-egos in the D&D fantasy world. There is munchkining. There are dice fumbles. There are pointless arguments. There is "mild comic violence" (mostly against bards). And occasionally slightly more extreme violence (against cartoon characters).
5:00pm: The Gamers - "One late night in a college dorm, four friends immersed themselves in a fantasy world of their own creation." So begins the worldwide cult hit about geeks, nerds and tabletop roleplaying games that Film Threat says "has many laugh-your-ass-off moments". Screened to great acclaim at festivals and conventions worldwide, The Gamers has been painstakenly re-dungeon-mastered and digitally enhanced for this definitive Director's Cut.
6:00pm: The Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising - Struggling writer Lodge isn't asking for much. All he wants is for his gaming group to finish playtesting his tabletop adventure, rather than killing, looting and debauching his fantasy world. Desperate to save the integrity of his story from the whims of his players' crazy characters - a horny bard, wild sorceress and cryptic monk - Lodge allows Joanna, Cass's ex-girlfriend, to join the game. With Joanna's help, the PCs trek deep into the game world to retrieve the Mask of Death from the evil necromancer Mort Kemnon. Will their choices in the game save their friendships in real life ... or will Mort Kemnon triumph unopposed?

8:30pm: The Gamers 3: Hands of Fate - When Cass sets his eye on scoring a date with Natalie, one of the world's top Romance of the Nine Empires players, she issues him a challenge: to show he's gamer enough to win this year's national championship at GenCon. Determined to prove that he can win any game, Cass enlists his long-suffering gaming buddy Leo to teach him everything he needs to know about collectible card games. But The Legacy, a group of hardcore gamers with an evil plan, has raised an army of the dead to win the game for themselves. And the rest of the gang - Gary, Lodge and Joanna - have crises of their own to face at GenCon...
