"Oh good. My puppy found the chainsaw."
Jun. 28th, 2016 10:57 pmMy place, Saturday 9th July, from 1pm
(That's not the Saturday just coming, but the one after. It's an earlier start than usual too.)
A somewhat more niche theme this time, but (a) I've promised the Clark and Chivers clans I'd host this for a while now; and (b) if you haven't seen Lilo & Stitch before, you really should.
The tale of a disturbed, Elvis-obsessed, Hawaiian orphan girl (who makes voodoo dolls of her friends because they need to be punished) and an indestructible, chaotic experiment (also cute and fluffy!) invented by an extraterrestrial evil genius, it's far more anarchic than Disney's usual fare. It's written and directed (and, in the case of Stitch, voiced!) by Chris Sanders, who went on to direct How to Train Your Dragon. It shows.
The straight-to-DVD sequels aren't in the same league as the original, but the extremely likeable characters and tongue-in-cheek humour are still there. Plus we get the pleasure of Dr Hamsterviel in the third and fourth films - a taunting villain viz an outraaageouz accent who could be straight out of Monty Python.
I will provide food, so don't worry about having lunch first!
Rough timetable:
1:00pm - Lilo & Stitch
2:30pm - Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch
3:45pm - The Origin Of Stitch (Bonus short!)
4:00pm - Stitch: The Movie
5:10pm - Link (Bonus episode! With a pirate!)
5:40pm - Leroy & Stitch
7:00pm - end
It'd be helpful if you could let me know if you're planning on coming, so I've a rough idea of numbers, but also feel free to turn up on the day.
