Just got back from the midnight showing of Episode III. Bit of a crummy start to the night - UGC were spoilsports and wouldn't let anyone take lightsabers into the cinema. (Mobile 'phones, sure. Video cameras, why not? Lightsabers, they'll have to stay outside.) Then there was the nearly an hour of ads. Some good trailers though.
But the film....

God
I won't say too much for those who haven't seen it yet (and, y'know, it being four in the morning and all). But Revenge of the Sith runs at least 5 gears higher than any other Star Wars film. The fight scenes are blindingly fast, and there seem to be about fifty of them. Great to see Artoo kicking droid ass with the best of them.
The whole thing was so charged with emotion, not usually regarded as one of Lucas's strong points. Great as the battles were, the scenes that really impressed me were the ones where the camera just focussed on the characters' faces, and where they just talked to one another. The acting was surprisingly good this time around too, although Ian McDiarmid didn't so much steal the show from the rest of the cast, as he crushed all opposition, chewed up the scenery and pronounced the movie his own personal Empire.
I laughed, I applauded, I sobbed, and I probably irritated the hell out of those sat near me. And now I want to watch Episode III over and over again every day until I die.
Even so, I've no doubt the Internet will be trashing it and bitching about it within the week. Here's a spoiler for all those miserable sods: Jar-Jar Binks survives! Yeah, you heard me.
Hopefully sometime tonight I'll calm down from my current high, at least enough to get some sleep. More witterings to come tomorrow (today?) no doubt....
